When I was growing up, my Mama would occasionally take a break from abusing me to make a delcious summer classic. After having our annual neighborhood firework war with the neighborhood kids, my sister and I would run home on the Fourth of July to scarf down some of my mother's signature 4th of July recipe: Mud Pie. Yummmm.
Now you can relive my childhood in just a few easy steps!
Ingredients
Shell:
- 16 Oreos
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Pie:
- 1 quart vanilla ice cream (or chocolate, if you prefer)
- 2 Tbs. butter
- 3 oz. chocolate chips
- 3 and 1/2 tsp evaporated milk
- Whipped cream
- Caramel syrup/sauce
- Slivered almonds
For shell:
Crush Oreos and mix with melted butter, press into a 9-inch pie dish and chill. If you're lazy or short on time, they make Oreo crusts that you can buy in the store! For realz!
For pie:
After crust has chilled and solidified, add ice cream in an even layer and freeze. Melt remaining butter and chocolate chips together in a small saucepan. When melted, add evaporated milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened to sauce consistency. Cool butter/chocolate chip/milk mixture.
After the pie has frozen, spread the sauce over it to create a shell. Return to freezer until sauce is hard. Before serving, top with whipped cream, caramel sauce and almonds.
