Ever since hapless moron Joe Walsh earned as an election opponent double-amputee war hero Tammy Duckworth, the headline "Joe Walsh Trashes Military Service of Double-Amputee War Hero Tammy Duckworth" has been inevitable. And here it is.
Joe Walsh is best known for not paying child support while simultaneously earning some Family Values Upholder of the Year award from the Family Research Council. He is second-best known for not playing for the Eagles, and then for bringing an alligator doll to an immigration press conference (cuz moats). He's even trashed military veterans before. Walsh, who was a fluke tea party candidate anyway but, for good measure, was still drawn out of his district by the corrupt Republican-style Illinois Democratic party, knows he has little chance of reelection—Public Policy Polling called him "the most vulnerable Republican incumbent in the country"—so I guess he has nothing to lose by saying this:
Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, "Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did!" He didn't want to do it, wouldn't do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. That's what's so noble about our heroes. Now I'm running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it's the last thing in the world they talk about. That's why we're so indebted and in awe of what they've done. [Bold in Think Progress' transcript, cuz they're like that]
Of course, the problem with that is it's hard to hide your military service when you're in a wheelchair because of it. (Also, was John McCain even IN Vietnam? Gore Vidal wants to know!)
For future reference, Joe Walsh, if you really want to trash military heroes, here's a good way to do it.
