Tom Cruise didn't have the greatest end to June, is beginning July on very rocky terms, and is now having to celebrate his birthday alone. And oh, what a big birthday it is. The Mission Impossible actor turns 50 today and instead of spending it with Katie Holmes and daughter Suri, he's now heading back to the states from Iceland.

With the news of Katie signing divorce papers, Tom has decided to head home to do the same. Us Weekly reports that he spent the first few hours of his birthday Tuesday morning (2 a.m. to be exact) jumping on a plane to head home to California. He'll be celebrating the day there while Katie, 33, and Suri, 6, continue to stay in New York.
Reports state that Tom was blindsided by the filing, and that definitely seems to be the case even more so now. Just weeks prior he told People how he was going to spend the big day with the family. "Iceland is beautiful," he said. "We like hiking, and so we'll have some nice hikes and maybe go camping."
Happy Birthday Tom! It looks like you'll be doing more paperwork than hiking though on the big day.
