I don't want to come right out and promise that Florence + The Machine's latest album Ceremonials earned a decent spot on our Top 50 Albums in Ology Historylist, but suffice it to say, we're big fans of the album here at MusicOlogy. You know what else we're big fans of? Summer vacation! And guess what? You can catch plenty of both in the group's brand-new video for the album's thirty-fifth single, "Breaking Down."
Directed by Tabitha Denholm, the video is a nostalgic travelogue through the retro back-roads of America, filmed in the same blown-out, old super 8 film style that makes even your lamest Instagram photos look really cool. Check it out below.
Okay, so it's not as exciting as watching them cover the Talking Heads in fuzzy animal costumes (see above), but it does really make me want to take a vacation and go swimming in a '60s swimming pool. I know, I know, we've seen a thousand and a half of these purposefully lo-fi music videos, but "Breaking Down" gets extra points purely because Florence & Co. look like (gasp!) they're actually having fun. Sigh, I'm glad someone is. (Turns up the air conditioning another click.)
