I could be exaggerating but I don't really think I am: respected author, reporter, and journalist Anderson Cooper has come out as gay in an e-mail conversation with The Daily Beast's Andrew Sullivan. Now, Anderson Cooper being gay is a universal truth that anyone with a pop culture brain bank should have already known, but it goes without saying that this doesn't decrease the value of his message, in which he explains his stance as a journalist with integrity, an always out-and-proud gay man, and a guy who just wants a little privacy. Read an excerpt from his e-mail below:
"The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud… I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues. In a perfect world, I don't think it's anyone else's business, but I do think there is value in standing up and being counted. I’m not an activist, but I am a human being and I don't give that up by being a journalist."
If you have the time, read his full letter over at The Daily Beast. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
