Raf Simons made his Dior debut with couture this morning. Not only did the new CD decorate the walls with millions of flowers, but he nailed the presentation itself. Vogue Fashion Director Lucinda Chambers had this to say:
"It was what you hoped for and more - it was such a beautiful homage to Dior, a mix of the modern, clean and unexpected with a real lightness of touch," Chambers told us after the show this afternoon. It was more elegant than elegant and he trod a brilliant line of being him and being respectful of Dior, I loved it. It was architectural and feminine at the same time. The mood was very expectant." Atelier Versace's return to couture was also a successful one.
"Though admittedly nervous, Donatella wanted to show at the storied location before its lengthy renovation closure in homage to her brother and because she finally found the strength to return. Yet she stressed the modernity of her approach, beginning with the set, a series of three clean mirrored panels that changed color juxtaposed against the grandeur of the pool room... Given this lineup, any fashion Kreskin worth his turban would see plenty of red-carpet stunners — the kind that get morning-after raves — on the Versace horizon." [WWD]
After days and days of tireless lobbying, renowned hairstylist Ted Gibson finally convinced the Academy to change the makeup award to the Makeup and Hairstyling Award. It's only a small victory because now he wants hair to "have its OWN ballet." Don't get greedy now, Ted. [Allure]
Kate Upton is rumored to have nabbed the cover for the first issue of Carine Roitfeld's much-anticapated magazine, CR Fashion Book. Guess she really is a supermodel in the making. How do we feel about this? [Fashionista]
Matthew McConaughey's new wife Camila Alves will serve as Macy's I.N.C.'s newest brand ambassador. She cooked them dinner and served them wine to convince them. [WWD]
A ton of fitness "experts" that haven't even met Miley Cyrus or Liam Hemsworth are offering advice for how the pair can stay in shape for the wedding. Um. [Celebuzz]
