Thank the great ginger gods that Louie is back. Tonight’s season three premiere, “Something Is Wrong” not only brought us back the show that we worship, but also gives us a good indication of things to come.

Of course Louie starts off with a dick joke because why wouldn’t it. He’s f*cking Louis C.K. He takes a dick joke and turns it into something both lewd and intelligent. Even aging men need to be proud of their dicks, you guys.
We find out that Louie has been dating a caustic workaholic who’s actually too smart for Louie. She’s got the balls and intuition to know that Louie isn’t into the relationship. It’s not that he hates her, I don’t even think he disliked her, but as she so eloquently put, “We’re nothing.” She was the smart one to realize it and break up with herself due to dignity (can there be any dignity in this situation?). He was the smart one to be the coward and let her- that wave of relief that comes over him is priceless. Just two smart and miserable people dating and breaking up. Sometimes I worry that this show is too Woody Allen.
Oh and speaking of New York- construction workers callously destroy his car causing Louie to embrace the mid-life crisis and buy a motorcycle. Hey guys, buying a motorcycle is really stupid. Don’t do it. Sure, women will probably want to f*ck you more, but is that worth your health and life? Survey says...yes.
Bedridden Louie is confronted by his recent ex-girlfriend who yet again hikes up the too-smart-to-be-desirable flag. Just because of Louie’s lack of balls (or excess of balls. I’m not sure- dudes, what do you think?)
But I’m sure the big talking point will be the casting an ethnic as his ex-wife. That’s right, AN ETHNIC. Seriously, guys, who gives a shit. In our recent interview with Louie, he mentioned this casting. It’s a good block quote, y’all:
"This ex-wife character is completely not anything like my real ex-wife. When I was drawing from my own life, I didn’t want to have the story be about an ex-husband and ex-wife. That relationship wasn’t what I wanted to write about. But I arrived at a version of it for this character that I thought was really good, this woman who’s well put together and kind of an added pressure to his life.
And the actress was so good. A lot of the stuff that we do on the show, I’m not sure I’m going to do it until I see who’s playing it. It’s part of having the freedom without a network, that you don’t have to run all the scripts and casting by people. I wrote a script with her in it, and I had the casting people go look for someone, and I told them open it way up and just bring anybody. And I really liked what this woman did, so I decided to stick with the character."
So there. When you think about that, is it really a big deal? Did it take you out of the reality of the show? If you said yes to that last question, get up, walk over to your door, open it, and smash your head in. You do not deserve to watch this show.
Or maybe I just really like Louis C.K.
SumOlogy: Watch this show forever and always.
Grade: A
P.S. The parking sign schtick was one of the best things I've seen on TV in a while.
