Why always him? Let the record show that SportsOlogy has always -- ALWAYS -- supported Mario Balotelli, even when he was doing things that would land an average person in jail. Balotelli is not an average person. An average person cannot score two goals in the first half of a Euopean Championship semifinal match against Germany, the team favored by many to win the whole thing.
After a brutally mundane Portugal-Spain game that ended in a penalty shootout, an open, entertaining match is a welcome relief. Germany dominated the early run of play, but that all changed in the 20th minute when Antonio Cassano turned around the German defense to loft a ball to Balotelli, who headed home.
Follow that with a brilliant ball from Riccardo Montolivo that sent Super Mario clear of every German defender. One ridiculous finish later, it was Italy over Germany, 2-0 at halftime.
Here are the goals. It's an open game, so Germany's still got a chance.
