Looks like the Yankees just caught another tough break.
Just hours after the club announced that strongman C.C. Sabathia is going on the disabled list with a groin strain (ha!), Andy Pettitte broke his ankle when he was smitten with a one-hop scorcher off the bat of Indians first baseman Casey Kotchman Wednesday afternoon. Pettitte is expected to be out for at least six weeks.
As terrible a blow as this is to the Yankees, fans of the Bronx Bombers should be thanking their lucky stars that the 40-year-old Pettitte didn't also fall and break a hip. Ha!
The badly timed injuries leaves the Yankees rotation once again in tatters. Ivan Nova has been great this year and Phil Hughes has been better lately, but no team, not even the Yankees, can afford to lose two quality left-handed starters at the same time. So say a prayer for the New York Yankees, and for Andy Pettitte too. At his age, you just hope that his body can heal itself so he can one day walk again.
