Chris commented on Poll: What's Your Early Pick For Album Of The Year?:
“Had no idea Electric Six is releasing an album this year, made my day. No idea what's album of the year but would love to see Deltron 3030, Wu Tang Clan, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, The Glitch Mob, Suicidal Tendencies, or Five Finger Death Punch turn out better than expected. All the big names are basically destined for commercial success at least.”
Brett commented on Poll: What's Your Early Pick For Album Of The Year?:
“I'd probably be voting for My Bloody Valentine's MBV with Bowie's The Next Day and Depeche Mode's Delta Machine not far behind... although expecting great things from the new Daft Punk, The National and Sigur Ros records.”
If I've said it once, I've said it a million times: there is a not-so-secret album hiding somewhere inside Lady Gaga, one populated with stark, raw and deeply emotional songs performed on lone pianos peppered with ambient sonic backdrops and eerie electronic flourishes. You won't dance to it… you wont' hear it on the radio… but it will be your new favorite thing in the entire world.
The latest evidence? Gaga debuted a devastatingly awesome new song titled "Princess Die" ("D-I-E," she clarifies helpfully) at last night's Born This Wall Ball concert in Melbourne, Australia. "I've been really excited and impressed with how many super fans have been at every show," she explains, "I truly feel it would be a disservice to all of you to not play it before I leave." Check it out below.
"Bleach out all the dark / I'll swallow each peroxide shot / Someone I know could love and save me from myself…" See how much you love this? Wouldn't you trade your left kidney to hear an entire album of this stuff? Lyrically, it's pretty familiar Gaga territory (i.e. the dark side of fame, beauty as destruction and vice versa, etc.), but musically it owes more to Joni Mitchell and Billy Joel than anything you're liable to hear on the dance floor. During a few moments, you could hear a pin drop in that area, so I know this isn't just the haplessly wishful thinking of a non-Monster. Please, Gaga? Put it on the album. Put it somewhere.
