What's that, you say? You'd love to not be able to take a deep breath during your shopping excursions? You're in luck! Because it's not enough to sweat like crazy in the underground mugginess that is the New York subway system, the MTA is looking to make your commute that much more stuffy by adding retail stores to a few underground transit concourses. Great.

The MTA has been talking about this for years, and, as The Cut reports, they even build the Columbus Circle station big enough to support 11,500 square feet of retail space, which equates to about a dozen stores
“Thinking creatively about our real estate holdings and the way we engage with the private sector has led us to pursue a partnership that we expect will increase MTA revenue and allow us to focus our resources on those parts of the station where they are most needed," MTA Chairman Joseph J. Lhota said in a statement.
Recently, the authority has begun taking bids on the space from private-sector real estate firms who can sublet retailers. I'm not sure I'd be too excited to spend more time underground than I have to, but I suppose it'll be a nice distraction from waiting 15 minutes for the M train all the damn time. Can you see yourself getting in some quality shopping time at a subway station?
