When pestered recently, Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack apparently revealed that the band recently recorded a double handful of new songs that could see the light of day as soon as next month. There was a distinct moment back in the fall of 2007 when almost literally everyone I knew was going crazy over Band Of Horses' second album, Cease To Begin. Dudes with beards, lilting melodies, reverb-drenched guitars… what's not to love, right? I'll admit they've more or less disappeared off my personal radar since then, but I have a feeling that's about to change this fall—the Seattle pop/rockers will release their as-yet-untitled new album (produced by the legendary Glyn Johns… yeah, whoa) this September.
In the meantime, check out the album's debut trailer, featuring a preview of a new song titled "Dumpster World."
I'm digging the new sounds. The opening's got a very distinct Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young vibe that segues into this really heavy, unexpected guitar power chord crunch, thicker and denser than anything I've heard from them before. Very interesting. You're going to want to mark this one on your calendars.
