When pestered recently, Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack apparently revealed that the band recently recorded a double handful of new songs that could see the light of day as soon as next month. "We still need to do the vocals, but we've been working on six new songs," he tells the Miami New Times. "Depending on how the finished things pan out, we're either going to put out a single or an EP. I think in June or July."

"I think all six songs are very different," Lissack continues. "I think all the records we've made have been quite e...

“I am quite excited. Have really liked all of their albums - particularly their debut album. Even motivated me to do a 10th grade research paper on the Austrian Archduke”

Feel like shelling out for the super swanky "Passport Edition"? Of course you do; it'll include "the album on double vinyl in a hand-numbered sleeve as well as the album on CD, a bonus 7" with two non-album tracks, a live studio recording called Right Notes, Right Words, Wrong Order, a bonus 12", four postcards (each from one member of the band), and more." A new album comes out. You like it, it's really good. Maybe you even write a really positive album review of it (see below). You play it a bunch of times on your phone and on your car and then you go pick up the CD but, by that time, you've kind of played it all out and then it just sits there on your shelf, untouched for a long while. Then, inexplicably, you start listening to it again and it sounds absolutely brand new and you smack yourself upside the head for all the weeks and months you spent not listening to it.
That's kind of been my relationship with The Shins' new album Port Of Morrow this week, so it's the perfect time (for me, at least) to see another new video. Check out a live performance cut of album favorite "No Way Down" below.
As much as I love the album version, I don't know, there's something really great about this. Maybe it's that plucky bassline, or maybe it's my not-so-secret crush on Jessica Dobson. Who knows? The more important issue at hand here is that, as I've long suspected, The Shins definitely own their own super top-secret log cabin outside Portland, Oregon where they keep all their gear and instruments and magic indie dust. I'm onto you, James Mercer. Don't think you can just build a cabin and play Port Of Morrow songs in it all the live long day and not expect that I'm going to take a week's vacation and come hang out with you. I mean, come on. This has gone on long enough.
What do you guys think of Port Of Morrow and the new "No Way Down" video? Leave some paw prints on our comments section below.
Rachel Siteman:
How is it that everything The Shins do is so incredible? I just watched their video for “It’s Only Life” the other day and it is amazing http://bit.ly/S5isCl I may like it more than “No Way Down” haha
