The years long debate over Obamacare, né the Affordable Care Act, long ago passed the point of being about health care, or about policy at all, and became a battle between two sides over Who's Going To Win, Team Death Panel or Team You're Gonna Die At 50 Of Untreated Diabetes. Good on you if you even remember what's in the PPACA.
At least one person seems have snapped to and realized that fact. And so I present to you John Boehner's warning to Republicans not to celebrate like a bunch of ghouls in the Supreme Court overturns Obamacare, along with all of its Medicare discounts and expanded coverage rights and extension of benefits to 30 million people:
House Speaker John Boehner issued a warning Thursday to fellow House Republicans, firmly stating they should avoid celebrating if the Supreme Court overturns the controversial health care law passed by Democrats.
“No one knows what the Court will decide, and none of us would presume to know. But if the Court strikes down all or part of the president’s health care law, there will be no spiking of the ball,” Boehner said in a memo to GOP members of the chamber.
[…]
Even if the high court rules in favor of Republicans’ argument against the controversial law, Boehner on Thursday encouraged House members to stay focused on the economy–not claiming victory.
“We will not celebrate at a time when millions of our fellow Americans remain out of work, the national debt has exceeded the size of our nation’s economy, health costs continue to rise, and small businesses are struggling to hire,” Boehner stated.
I particularly enjoyed how the article with the above excerpt goes on to say, "Yeah, but we're going to anyway, cuz WE FUCKEN WON." The blogger, Jason Pye, seems to have no idea that the PPACA addresses a health care crisis of any sort, but thinks it was drafted by the Obama administration for the express purpose of shivving the Constitution.
He goes on: "If the Supreme Court does, however, find the individual mandate to be constitutional, there will be no shortage of gloating from the Left; and you’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise."
I'll agree with Jason Pye on that one. We will be happy, because 30 million people, many of them who live below the poverty line, will be granted health care. Why again will Republicans be happy if they don't?
