Wes Anderson scenes set against a Kinks track have always been one of my favorite movie/music pairings (with Cat Stevens' soundtrack to Harold and Maude as a close second). The boys that The Kinks write about in songs like "Well Respected Man" and "Dedicated Follower of Fashion" were Wes Anderson characters before Wes Anderson was even born. Although there is only one Kinks song in Rushmore--"Nothing In This World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl--and a handful in The Darjeeling Limited, the director and band are forever linked for me.
So in honor of Kinks lead singer and songwriter Ray Davies, who turns 68 today, I'm paying tribute to (in my opinion) his most successful working relationship. Check out the montage below from Anderson's 2007 film The Darjeeling Limited, set to "Strangers."
