I know I don't have to remind or encourage any of you to go see the new Pixar film Brave in theaters this weekend, but in case you weren't excited enough, here's a little added incentive: the new animated feature (and its accompanying soundtrack album, out now) feature… get ready for it… the first new Mumford & Sons studio recording since Sigh No More. Insert your own "eek!" here.
The song is called "Learn Me Right" and it features none other than wee singing sensation Birdy (whose cover of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love" should be on at least one of your Spotify playlists, if it isn't already) on lead vocals. Imagine a fiery little Scottish redhead behind the mic and then take a listen below.
"It's quite fun doing a song for a movie rather than for an album," says now-married man Marcus Mumford. "We liked the idea of having an orchestra in the background and having a girl like Birdy sing-- it's been quite liberating."
That's Mumford & Co. on backing vocals, by the way. Love the sweeping, cinematic Celtic folk vibes and layers of acoustic guitars, banjos and whatever else they've got making a racket in there. Makes you really want to go see Brave… almost as much as it makes you really want Mumford & Sons to put out their new album. Swiftly, boys! Swiftly!
