National Geographic Attempts To Contact Aliens With Twitter Because Why Not?

Chris Exantus
TVOlogy

Proving yet again that humans haven’t learned a goddamned thing from science-fiction regarding what happens when you try to contact aliens (hint: it never ends well), the National Geographic Channel will test human mortality and attempt to contact our soon to be alien overlords. Who knows- this time it might actually work!

What’s that? You wish to stare death in the face and risk annihilation, global slavery or anal probing? Beginning on June 29th, National Geographic will be collecting tweets from 8PM ET to midnight PT in order to beam them up into space as a response to the Wow! Signal, a message detected by scientists in 1979 whose origins were thought to have come from aliens. After composing a short twitter message, make sure to include the #ChasingUFOs hashtag and tweet it during the allotted time. During episodes of Chasing UFOs, the tweets will be streamed during the show, along with videos from celebrities and their ilk (though I do hope Will Smith preface his with a "WELCOME TO EARFF" for good measure) and will finally be sent into space on August 15th.

There may be a chance that our messages will reach a docile alien race, though the constant "Hey Aliens! I just met you, and this is crazy, but here's my number, so call me, maybe?" tweets they surely will receive might be too much for our interspecies neighbors to bear, causing them to seek the final solution: total planetary destruction. So, you know, you only have yourselves to blame.
