Samuel "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher released an ad Tuesday that linked gun control to the Holocaust and the Armenian genocide:
"In 1911, Turkey established gun control," says Wurzelbacher as he loads his shotgun. "From 1915, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated." The camera zooms out, showing Wurzelbacher taking aim at a tomato sitting on a post. He shoots and says, "In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews, and seven million others, unable to defend themselves, were exterminated."
Bang bang bang, and the tomatoes explode. Rifle by his chest, Wurzelbacher says with a smile, "I love America."
Aside from the occasional rom-com and a particularly touching scene from Korea’s Got Talent, movies and TV clips never make me cry. This, however, was so touching; it made me believe in Amurica, Hell Yeah! again.
Of course, some whiners think that "using the memories of the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust to make a political point is never appropriate, under any circumstances." But these are just liberals who hate history.
I wish Wurzelbacher would go a little farther, like his spokesman Phil Christofanelli: "Well, blacks weren't allowed to own guns in the south, that’s a historical fact as well. So, it would seem that the argument would apply there as well." It would seem so indeed. Historical facts, no matter how simplified and out of context, represent incontestable truths. "That’s our position and that’s what was said in the video. And there’s nothing offensive about it, it’s just historical fact."
Haters gonna hate, Joe. But with supporters like Rep. Allen West, you’re a shoe into congress, or whatever.
