Orgasms? Here's a bit of strange news to titilate and ponder. Nicolas Winding Refn has signed on to remake Barbarella, in TV form. For those of you not familiar with the 1968 cult classic, it's about orgasms. No really, there's a scene where an evil guy traps Barbarella and plans on killing her with his orgasm machine but instead she has multiples so intensely that the power of her never-tired clitoris breaks the machine and defeats the evil dude. There's also guys with wings and lasers and all of that business.
So it's pretty weird when this subject is going to be a TV show. And it's even weirder that the guy who directed Drive and Bronson is taking it on.
I guess he's going to take the whole sexy-space-fighter thing to the next level. This is great, but I almost think that someone like Joss Whedon or James Cameron would be better suited for this. Dark Angel is kind of the same thing, right? Except Jessica Alba should have just had a lot of sex with that guy in the wheelchair. Is that show on Netflix yet because it should be.
Overall, I'm really excited to see what Refn does with this show, both with casting, directorial style and sountrack. In a statement, the director called Barbarella "one of the ultimate counter-culture characters." Let's pray to God that Ryan Gosling is involved, considering he's the symbol of all things orgasmic.
Here's a clip from the original. Jane Fonda was a total hottie. And yes, there is a character named Dildano.
What do you think? More importantly, who do you think should be the new Barbarella?
