I'm taking a quick break from the emotional coma I've been under this whole week (induced almost entirely by Glen Hansard's new solo album Rhythm And Repose, which landed in real music stores today) to let you know that Glen stopped by The Tonight Show last night to perform the album's heartbreakingly boisterous lead single "Love Don't Leave Me Waiting" for Jay Leno and all the other senior citizens who watch his show each night.
In case you missed it, give your afternoon a spiritual jumpstart by checking it out below.
Like just about everything I've ever heard the man sing, it's "bloody gorgeous" (to lift a line from one of my favorite scenes in Once). It's got a deceptively light, bouncy, definitely Van Morrison-inspired vibe to it, but take a quick listen to the lyrics and you'll realize it's just as rapturously bleak as everything else on the album.
With or without The Frames or The Swell Season, Hansard simply can do no wrong—don't get turned off just because Jay Leno liked it.
