Want to know what's even cooler than Bon Iver's new salmon shoes? (See below) Good, because I'll tell you: "Beth/Rest," from last year's Grammy Award-winning self-titled album. Equal parts '80s slow jam cheese fest and faux-sensual indie rock sob-fest, the song holds a special place in my heart, right next to my Hawaiian shirts and Miami Vice DVDs.
Today, Justin Vernon & Co. are giving fans another chance to chill out with "Best/Rest" and six other Bon Iver staples (including their stupendous cover of Björk’s “Who Is It") with the new iTunes Session EP, online now. Want a quick taste of what to expect? Pull out your best pastel t-shirt and take a listen to the extended live version of "Beth/Rest" below.
Speaking of which, can we all take a moment and soak in the awesomeness of this YouTube video description:
Hearing Bon Iver live is, quite simply, all consuming. It is a vivid and powerful display, with of an audio range oscillating from a whisper to an absolute wall of carefully constructed sound. In conjunction with an emotional range from bitter hope to vibrant joy, its can be hard to know how to take it. It bears repeating.
Yeah, whoa. Put that in your loafer and jog with it.
