The purple was flowing, the line was down the block and teens were gushing about how they camped out the night before in front of Macy's to land tickets to the secret show in Harlem. Yep, onlookers knew what was about to go down. Justin Bieber headed up the Apollo Monday night to tape an NBC special and invited 2,000 of his closest fans. Decked out in black glasses and pins galore, fans were treated to a set that went on even after an unexpected power outage.
As fans headed to their seats at 7 p.m. it wasn't until about 8:30 that the concert began. Michael Jackson tracks played as his manager, Scooter Braun, came out with an introduction. It's go time. Some of the biggest titles Justin played during the evening included an opening with "Somebody to Love," "Die In Your Arms," "Never Say Never," "As Long As You Love Me" and acoustic versions of "One Time," "Pray," and "Be Alright." As if the screams weren't loud enough, when he first stepped out on to the stage, Justin introduced Ludacris as his special guest during the second song "All Around The World." He briefly came out as Justin went off to hug his young daughter behind the curtain before moving on.
The dance moves, the blazing yellow lights and Justin's change into a white t-shirt brought the screams. So much so that Avalanna Routh asked the audience to keep quiet. Yet another memorable surprise, the 6-year-old Mrs. Bieber was brought on stage for his "One Less Lonely Girl" number, which led the singer to get a bit emotional. He asked for all to say a little pray for her after the concert.
What really mirrored Justin's connection with his fans came when the Apollo's power shut down with only two songs to go. "There's too many sexy girls in here," he joked blaming the outage on the crowd. Fans waited patiently for as long as they could, but luckily, within the break Justin played the drums and later stretched out on the floor, goofing off, to pass the time. Braun also got a surprise cake in the face to celebrate his birthday. After about 40 minutes, Justin finally axed waiting around any longer and asked the audience to sing along with him. "Eenie Meenie" got cut from the performance but a drum beat and the shouting fans was all that was needed.
"Me and @ludacris blew up the power at the @ApolloTheater. Haha. Epic. #beastmode," Justin joked on Twitter. "A night none of us will ever forget!! That is how u end an#AllAroundTheWorld run!!! With no power for the last song...my fans sang it 4 me!" he added. Ending it with "Boyfriend" just hours before his Believe release, a little power outage turned out to be the greatest finale.
"What I saw tonight! My fans! My Beliebers! They stepped up for me! I love u! I will never forget 2nite! That was the way a show should end," he wrote. Those lucky 2,000 fans who got to experience it live probably can't help but agree. A night that won't be forgotten any time soon.
