As everyone knows by now, ever since Kanye West announced that he's releasing his unexpected album Yeezus on June 15, the date has become somewhat of a holy day in terms of hip-hop; it caused J. Cole to push the release date of Born Sinner up a week to match Kanye in what he admitted was an act of competition, and while the two are dominating headlines in terms of the day, we have to remember that Mac Miller planned to drop his sophomore album Watching Movies With The Sound Off on the same day a while ago (keep in mind that Statik Selektah's Extended Play is also dropping the same day, and is definitely a sleeper). Mac Miller Drops New Track "Watching Movies," Sounds Like Gucci Mane

If you've been around long enough, then you know I'm not much of a Mac Miller advocate, so, you know, don't expect the best of opinions here. That said, following the release of the album art for his upcoming sophomore LP Watching Movies With The Sound Off, Pittsburgh's Most Hideous decided to drop a new track from the album, an interesting cut titled "Watching Movies" that continues the same phantasmagoric beat pattern we've been seeing in his sounds. Now, regarding the title: I'm not saying Mac Miller, tonally, sounds like Gucci Mane, but listen to the foundation of the beat, his pronunciation of certain words, the laxity, floundering flow, hook, et cetera--dude sounds like Gucci Mane with a different pitched voice, plain and simple. Picture This: Mac Miller Shows Off Lanky Nudes For 'Watching Movies With The Sound Off' Cover

Well, this is a marketing scheme for sure; I cannot fathom any reason why someone, save for female artists pushing the sex appeal angle, or your typical ripped up R&B male sex god, would go nude on the cover of their album for anything more than the pure purpose of getting attention for it. Whatever though. It's not my choice. Anyway, as you can see above, Mac decided to go birthday-suited for the cover of his upcoming sophomore album, Watching Movies With The Sound Off, and that's about it. Listen: this is probably going to piss you Mac Miller devotees off, but it has to be said--dude sounds like someone took Tyler the Creator's voice, knocked it up on the pitch, and called it Mac Miller instead of Tyler. I know the language in that sentence is poor, so I'll state it clearer: tone aside, everything of Mac Miller's new track and first Watch Movies With The Sound Off single "S.D.S." sounds like a Tyler the Creator track. I'm sorry, but it's true, so, you know, deal with it. Opinion done, here's the deal: Mac's dropped off his first single, which we saw previewed awhile ago in concert footage, and it's...different.
