Ok, this might sound totally close-minded, but does Leslie Stevens -- of Leslie and The Badgers -- not sound like a much older, lower-octaved Joanna Newsom? Musically, maybe not at all. But vocally? We think yes. But that's a real good thing, people!
Thanks to her brand spankin' new record Roomful of Smoke -- that'll sit right with anyone that digs on the more countrified side of Neko Case or Gillian Welch -- we're already becoming quick converts. Doesn't hurt that producer David Bianco (behind albums by complete and total nobodies Bob Dylan & Tom Petty) worked on the thing. That whole alt-country scene may have faded into its own dusty sunset a few years back, but we listen up good when someone like Leslie seemingly comes outta nowhere.
Hence why we felt much obliged to give the solo performance video for the Roomful of Smoke heartbreaker "Sinner" some much-due love -- please don't go cryin' into your whiskey this early in the day though.
