Pardon me for stating what's probably the obvious, but the whole "1950s square" look has come back in full force for men this year. Maybe we can thank Mad Men, maybe it's just the backlash to the whole dudes-in-girl-jeans emo thing that consumed the earlier part of the decade, but males are dressing like males again-- and thank goodness.
Even the New York Times has noticed this shift in menswear, pointing out that it's the middle-aged men who are wearing t-shirts and jeans now, while the hip twenty-something guys are out in dorky novelty sweaters and thick-rimmed retro glasses.
And now Jim Moore, creative director of GQ, has done a twelve-trend menswear roundup, covering fall's coveted items. Among them? Suspenders, tweed and those silly novelty sweaters, which he says are a throwback to the preppy '80s-- "Ivy League, in a cool way."

This cleaned-up new look for men's got me singing praises to the menswear gods, but what do you guys think? Do you disagree with me and like your boys a little less grandpa and a little more rock 'n' roll?
