Isabelle Caro, the 28-year-old French model and actress who made waves when she posed in a shocking 2007 campaign highlighting the perils of anorexia (see above), has lost her battle to the disease. It appears that she actually died on November 17, but the information has just been released.
According to her boyfriend, singer Vincent Bigler, Caro was hospitalized for about two weeks prior to her passing with acute respiratory disease. However, he says that he doesn't know what the cause of her death was.
It was admirable for Caro to bare her emaciated form when posing for Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani. Her reason for participating in the "No to Anorexia" campaign--which was presented in Milan during Fashion Week in 2007--is chilling to recall:
"I thought this could be a chance to use my suffering to get a message across, and finally put an image on what thinness represents and the danger it leads to--which is death."
So sad, considering that the 5'4" model had brought her weight up from 70.5 pounds to about 92.4 pounds. Caro also appeared on Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty, bringing the star to tears:
