The Fault in our Stars is an Amazing Book
Beautifully written tragically sad, potent.  I could not put it down.  Time Magazine has dubbed it "damn near genius".    TIME Magazine’s #1 Fiction Book of 2012! “The Fault in Our Stars is a love story, one of the most genuine and moving ones in recent American fiction, but it’s also an existential tragedy of tremendous intelligence and courage and sadness.” —Lev Grossman, TIME Magazine Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten. Insightful, bold, irreverent, and ra...

So I finally went out and bought the Fifty Shades of Grey since every girlfriend of mine and apparently everyone in NY (particularly the UES where it is said rope is suddenly in high demand in hardware stores) are reading this. I am not opposed to the subject matter - anything that drives feminine indulgences is good. But Seriously people? I was depressed that I was reading it - that I wasting my time. It is the most poorly written, worse piece of crap I have read in a very long time. The writing is terrible, the plot predicable and the characters shallow and sophomoric. It's pretty pathetic that this has become a cultural sensation. Unlike most of my friends I did not immediately run out to get book 2 and book 3. No interest in what Mr. Grey & Ms. Steele do next, but I'm sure I know the plots and how it turns out. For those you want this type of erotica -wait for the movie, at least it will only be 2 hours of your life and may be better on screen. although I doubt it.

Chris Exantus: Sigh. Women, why can't you just watch porn like normal people?

Emily Cheever: Beth you are SO RIGHT. I don't care about the erotica, the thing was so badly written I wanted to tear my hair out. I can't believe that the book is a NY Times best seller. Plus, the whole thing could be thought of as a TERRIBLE statement on feminism. And wouldn't it just be porn if the movie stayed true to the book?
