This story...will freak...you out.
It happened in Korea, where a woman was presumably having an otherwise enjoyable meal of squid that was parboiled (partially boiled, usually safe). See, some cultures don't mind eating squid when it's not fried. Anyway, she took a bite and then felt severe pain in her mouth, a "prickling and foreign body sensation." When she went to the doctor they found twelve- F*CKING TWELVE- "small, white spindle-shaped, bug-like organisms stuck in the mucous membrane of the tongue, cheek, and gingiva."
SWEET MOTHER OF GOD.
Basically, even when squid is partially boiled, their reproductive organs make a last ditch effort to propagate the species. Breeding grounds for this should normally be a female squid, but apparently the human mouth is very similar to a female squid. So definitely think about that the next time you're making out with someone.
What's even more shocking is the fact that no one really knows how this is scientifically possible. It's one of those little mysteries of life. When life wants to find away, they'll find a way. I don't know how I feel about all the things I'm learning today.
Now, who's up for sushi?
