The official line-up for A Symphony of British Music, the sure-to-be spectacular closing ceremony of this year's London Olympic games, remains a pretty poorly kept secret. The Who, Take That, the Spice Girls and Kate Bush are all rumored to be performing (i.e. expect to see at least three of them on stage), but we can definitely confirm that Ed Sheeran, George Michael and now… drum roll… Muse will be playing in Sunday's closing ceremonies.
Muse, of course, is a no-brainer—they only penned "Survival," the London games' bombastically silly official song. "I'm happy with the song. It's a proper Muse song," insists drummer Dom Howard in the new issue of NME. "It's not something we just did for the Olympics. They sowed a seed by asking us to do some music but then five months went by. We showed them a few songs when they asked us about [playing the] closing ceremony and they loved it. It represented the enormous competition of what the Olympics is."
So yeah, plan on hearing "Survival" for the umpteenth millionth time… plus choice cuts from whoever else decides to show up… on Sunday night... and then again on A Symphony of British Music: Music For The Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the official soundtrack of the closing ceremonies dropping promptly on August 12. Swift, Horatio!
