Despite claiming the world's greatest (and most renowned, ironically enough) secret agent as their own, England isn't the greatest about keeping secrets. Blame the rampant wiretapping, I suppose. It's why, despite the purported cloud of secrecy, we pretty much know for a fact that The Who, Spice Girls, Kaiser Chiefs, Take That, George Michael and Beady Eye will all be involved in the August 12 super event, designed to celebrate 50 years of British music.
As always, take it with a major grain of salt, but according to UK gossip rag The Sun, the Olympic organizers originally reached out to Oasis songwriter and chief High Flying Bird Noel Gallagher to perform the song, an opportunity he apparently turned down after thinking "long and hard about it." ("Snore patrol Noel Gallaghers high flying smurfs who said rock n roll is dead," tweeted Liam yesterday afternoon in a possible response.)
Yes, the same Olympic organizing committee that reached out to (famously) deceased drummer Keith Moon to appear also took it upon themselves to invite Noel Gallagher on stage to perform a song he wrote but didn't sing. I've never been quick to defend Liam… and don't plan on making a habit out of it… but for goodness sake, Beady Eye is four-fifths of Oasis, including the bloke who sang the bloody song! Why on earth wouldn't they be the first choice to perform "Wonderwall"? So wait, half of The Who can play "Baba O'Riley" but… oh, hell, forget it. Never mind. I give up.
