Dan Harmon's 'Community' Rape Joke Really Isn't Going Over Well
God dammit, rape jokes: will a quip that even nudges the idea of sadistic sex-driven violence ever be socially acceptable? Because, apparently Community creator Dan Harmon though that savage imagery was perfectly likable to what it felt like for him to watch an entire season of his show after vacating the job of Executive Producer, and rape evokes feelings just like feelings evoke rape. The actual quote is that his viewing of the NBC comedy's fourth year was like "being held down and watching your family get raped on a beach," which is only odd because I don't know much about beach rape, nor why the completely innocent beach was relevant, but what happened next is sadly typical: the rest of America was like, "um, no." Well, in a Tumblr post that's totally worth your TL;DR, Harmon has ...

Jane Pratt On XoJane Getting A Reality Show: "It Makes Sense To Me"

Lauren Caruso

Whether you like it or not (you should), Jane Pratt's name has been all over the news since her perpetually drug-stained beauty editor Cat Marnell quit her job at XoJane.com to smoke angel dust on rooftops (and, apparently, write for Vice). But just because the drama between Marnell and her former boss is on a downswing, it doesn't mean all's quiet on the XoJane front. BuzzFeed SHIFT's Amy Odell (still weird not to attach Odell's name to The Cut...) caught up with Jane Pratt to talk all things digital, Cat Marnell, and of course, a reality television show. Because how many times in the past month have you though, "This BS would make for great TV!" Exactly.

On gettng approached with reality tv pitches:
Yes, I have. We’ve been approached by a bunch of different people about it. And I read somewhere that I was shopping one and I was looking to do one. It wasn’t something that I was looking for, but we have had a lot of interest.

On how serious she is:
I’ve been meeting with people. I think that it’s a natural fit because we do have so many characters here. In hiring, I did feel like I was casting a soap opera or reality show because I knew I was going to have everybody be very regularly photographed or be on video on the site. I knew people were going to get to know them, not just through their writing, but through how they look and dress and this and that. Emily McCombs, for example, gets recognized on the street at least a few times a week. That’s how much people know these characters. A reality show makes sense to me. But I would want it to be done the right way.

On her conditions:
I wouldn’t want it to be manipulated in any way, or trying to stir up controversy for the sake of controversy. We fight enough here that they wouldn’t have to. There’s plenty of drama here. There’s plenty of crying in the office.

On the office dramatics:
We all work so tightly together, and the work that we’re doing is so personal and often emotional that I think it brings a lot of that up. Peoples’ feelings will get hurt or there will be clashes between different people on staff. There was stuff between Cat [Marnell] and Emily when Cat was here. They would scream and then make up. Emily and I have had ours too. I think it’s also partly because I really like for people to be big personalities. So if you’re going to stick a bunch of big personalities together, it’s going to happen.

I can't imagine that screaming and making up produces an environment conducive to anything but reality TV. Win-Win, right? Read the full interview here
