That Showtime has actually kept its word and commanded Dexter's eighth season to be its last—much to its chagrin, as the series continues garnering larger ratings than ever before, despite some lackluster seasons—gives the looming final episodes a great jolt of energy and suspense as June 30th nears. The show's promo has been consistently drawing parallels between Dexter Morgan and sister Debra, critiquing their relationship with each other as well as the damage that Dexter's biggest revelation has had on Deb, now that it has caused her to take a life (not to mention, of course, the fact that she is in love with him). Watch Jennifer Carpenter, Michael C. Hall, and the Dexter cast and crew explore the show's final season and the astounding effects it will have on the show's two leads:
Watch Two Cryptic New Teasers For The Final Season of 'Dexter'
Each shockingly bloody Dexter promo seems determined to out-creep the last: there are still more than two months until Showtime's murder drama enters its final season, but the running promo trail is leaving a whirling path of questions in its wake. How will Deb, who has only just learned about her brother's secret identity, handle her own capability of taking someone's life? How will she and her brother handle Maria's death, as the clues about Dexter and his dark passenger will ostensibly expose him as a killer? Will Dexter live long enough to survive the walls closing in? Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter star in two teasers below--one of which ponders Dex's fate while the other struggles with how he'll protect Deb--only amplify your concerns. Watch them below:
Michael C. Hall Is Looking Forward To Life Without 'Dexter'
While Showtime looks toward its eighth and final season of Dexter as it closes out beginning this June, you have to imagine the apprehension the network feels about axing a series in its prime. Its seventh season was its most popular yet, leaving more viewers than ever hungry for more of Dex's dark passenger. Regardless, Michael C. Hall tells EW in an interview that having an end game set was far more important than the show's numbers.
"I’ve been an advocate for having a dialog with the writers and getting a sense of how to best bring this story home — not wrap everything up with a tidy bow, but find some sort of conclusion," he said. "There has to be an end game. Once Deb found out, it felt like we were moving toward a place where the world as Dexter knew it would end."

If you're asking me, something fishy has been going on with Dexter. Allow me to speculate, if you will: while the show had decided after season 6 that it'd only run for two more seasons--eight being a dream number of years for any television series--there was a slight problem that occured over season 7: Dexter became bigger than ever.
The Michael C. Hall-led series' ratings took a substantial leap over Season 6 (which was a tick down from the year before it), breaking more than 2 million viewers per episode, and having its season finale become the most-watched episode in the show's history. Showtime wrongly predicted Dexter's peak, and here they now sat with the glorious issue of canceling a show in its prime.
There was certainly a power struggle between the people of Showtime and the people of Dexter, y...
Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) and brother Dexter (Michael C. Hall) were caught in quite the sticky situation when sis stumbled upon her murderin' sibling just doin' his usual murderin'. The bad news is that Dexter's seventh season premiere will pick up immediately where that fateful sixth year finale left off, so our buddy Dex isn't getting out of this one without finally facing at least a few of his monstrous demons. But the good news is that--at least in the brand new trailer below--the show will eventually go beyond Dex and Deb's discovery and onto other mysteries (for instance, WHAT THE HELL, LOUIS?!). So there is life after death... too bad you only get a nine-second look at what that's like. Freeze frame it all you want:
What do you think will happen with Dexter and Deb on Dexter season 7? Is Louis this season's next great villain? Let us know in the comments below!
