This is just an unfortunate coincidence, a case of homophonic names gone terribly wrong. Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State defensive coordinator, was recently found guilty on 45 of 48 charges related to sexually molesting children. The general consensus is that Jerry Sandusky is a monster who will rightfully spend the rest of his life in prison.
Some people, though, feel that is not enough, and when the justice system fails, the only remedy is to express personal opinions on social media outlets. Evan McMurry has already covered the temporary allowances for prison rape many people have had the moral courage to make, but often that's not enough. Some Twitter users need to attack the source. They need to find Jerry Sandusky and tell him, in 140 characters or fewer, that he's the worst and deserves to die a painful death, etc.
Enter Gerry "With a G" Sandusky. When the Sandusky scandal broke, we noticed this unfortunate name, but had no time to or interest to cover it. Now that Jerry Sandusky has moved from the ranks of alleged child abusers to a bona fide sexual deviant, Gerry "With a G" has been taking a beating on Twitter. We're here to clear up some confusion.
Here's Gerry "With a G" Sandusky's Twitter profile, @GerrySandusky. The bio succinctly clears up any confusion:
"I am Gerry with a G. Baltimore sportscaster. No relation to the former Penn State coach. Views expressed are my own."
OK, fair enough, no relation. But that's not good enough for some people, and Gerry "With a G" feels the need (understandably) to respond directly to his detractors. In spite of the seriousness of Jerry Sandusky's crimes, Gerry Sandusky's Twitter feed is pretty hilarious for its consummately professional responses to clowns who have no idea how to spell Jerry Sandusky's name. A brief sampling follows, dating from two days ago to as recently as a half hour ago:
Wow. Gerry with a G is a saint. In addition to his responses, which are largely devoid of the sarcasm and/or vitriol with which I would respond had I been named Gerry Sandusky, Gerry "With a G" published a poignant blog post on his experience and how he's handled an unlikely situation.
Of course, I really like the idea that the real Jerry Sandusky (Gerry "With a G" Sandusky is not real in the same way) would have a Twitter. I wonder what that timeline would look like? Well, we can dream.
Anywho, Gerry "With a G" Sandusky DID NOT MOLEST UNDERAGE BOYS. We think. Keep it in mind before you wish anal rape and an eternity of fiery hell on Gerry Sandusky, Baltimore-area sportscaster.
