Bust out your best eyeliner, gentlemen: Placebo have announced the release of Loud Like Love, their seventh studio album and long-awaited follow-up to 2009's Battle For The Sun and last year's B3 EP. Not much word yet re: what we can expect to hear on Loud Like Love, but judging from the title and caliber of tunes on B3 (my review), I'd sa...
As promised, Muse debuted their new single "Survival" on BBC Radio just moments ago. If that dubstep-soaked teaser trailer (see below) for new album The 2nd Law (out this September) had you worried, never fear—the new track is a classical-influenced, classically bombastic bit of Muse business…. so much so that the organizers of this year's London Summer Olympics have chosen it as the official song of the games. Yeah, whoa.
…there's no way this wasn't purposefully written with the Olympics in mind, right? "It's a race / and I'm gonna win"? Apart from the almost laughably silly (and decidedly Queen-influenced) vocal bombast, it's a pretty okay (not great) Muse track. The sweeping orchestral opening is great… as are the grinding guitar riffs towards the end… but the middle feels a little stagnant, like there should be a great song in here somewhere but there isn't. Without the ornate production or Olympic baggage, I don't think it'd be much to write home about. But still, it's new Muse music and it's not a third-rate Skrillex rip-off, as initially feared. That's enough to get excited about, right?
What do you guys think of Muse's "Survival" as a first taste of The 2nd Law and as the official song of the Olympics? (Expect to hear a lot more of it this summer.) Hit up our comments section below.
